Further code requirements can be complex and include such considerations as; size, mobile link, visibility and design.
SIZE: No matter where a QR code is placed, the proper size of the pattern can be tricky. For example, if the code is too small (less than 1 x 1 inches); QR readers will be unable to clearly read it. As with many marketing efforts, consider how and where the consumer will be viewing it such as at what height, distance and angle.
DESIGN: While bearing in mind the size of a QR code, also consider its’ overall design and visual appeal. As previously mentioned in a recent blog entry, 8 Creative Examples of QR Codes, companies have the option to alter the pattern of squares in the code to match their existing branding. However when doing so, be sure that the code is not altered onto a colored background (such as a blue code onto a red background). Doing so may make it unappealing to the eye and even unreadable to a QR scanning application. The safest practice is to place a colored code onto a white background to avoid any possible issues. From that point there are still a plethora of other creative design options as well.
VISIBILITY: As important as the QR code size and design, is the code placement. When integrating QR codes into printed materials such as signage, direct mailers or other promotional materials; be sure to place the code in a highly visible, clear spot. You don’t want the viewer to search or work too hard for it. To boot, doing so will increase the likelihood of success and response rate.

RACO Manufacturing and Engineering Co. Tradeshow Postcard - Buckaroo created this postcard for RACO Manufacturing & Engineering, Co. to hand out before, during and after trade show events. Each QR code links to different product information.
MOBILE LINK: Attached to every code is a link to content or an online presence of sorts (See Linkable Content from previous post). As a result, give it your due diligence by previewing how the linked content appears on mobile phones of differing formats and sizes (iPhone/iPad versus Blackberry or Android phones). It is sometimes even necessary to create a separate mobile version of the company’s website. Once the QR code is properly linked, an additional consideration is tracking and measurability. For further information on tracking, read Buckaroo’s previous entry the Best Practices of QR Code Marketing.
This entry is only a shortened summary of the use of QR codes. As a result, it’s wise to hire professionals (like Buckaroo) to ensure maximum results. The example above is just one way Buckaroo is already helping clients utilize QR codes.
